Why shelving needs to be done right

Shelves That Stay Up — Loaded With Real Weight

A floating shelf that looks beautiful empty and sags or pulls out of the wall six months later isn't a shelf — it's a liability. Shelving installation done wrong is one of the most common sources of wall damage in San Antonio homes, and the mistake is almost always the same: anchors set into drywall alone instead of studs, or the wrong anchor type for the wall material.

At San Antonio Installers, we do shelving right. Every shelf we install is anchored into wall studs when possible, or into properly rated toggle bolts and masonry anchors when studs aren't available in the right position. We load-test every shelf before we leave — if it's going to hold books, plants, or kitchen items, we make sure it can handle it before you put anything on it.

We install floating shelves, bracket shelving, built-in shelf systems, closet shelving, pantry organizers, and garage storage systems throughout San Antonio. Whether you're furnishing a new home, organizing a pantry in an Alamo Heights kitchen, or building out a garage storage wall in Stone Oak, we handle the installation so you get a result that's level, secure, and built to last.

From a single floating shelf in a bathroom to a full garage storage wall — we install it level, secure, and ready to hold real weight across San Antonio.

Floating Shelves

Sleek, hardware-hidden floating shelves in kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms, and offices. We locate studs, set the ledger at the right depth, and make sure every shelf is perfectly level before it's loaded.

Bracket Shelving

Open bracket shelves, industrial pipe shelving, and decorative bracket systems. We anchor brackets into studs and confirm the load rating before you put anything heavy on them.

Garage Storage Systems

Wall-mounted garage shelving, overhead storage tracks, and slatwall systems. Garage walls are often concrete block in San Antonio — we use masonry anchors and the right bits for a solid, permanent install.

Closet Shelving

Wire closet systems, wood closet organizers, and custom closet shelf installations. We build out your closet configuration efficiently and make sure every piece is level and secure.

Pantry & Kitchen Shelving

Open pantry shelves, pot rack installations, and kitchen wall storage. We anchor into studs behind tile and drywall and make sure your kitchen shelving can handle the weight of what you're storing.

Why it matters

We always find the stud

Stud finders give false readings on older San Antonio walls with plaster or concrete block. We use multiple detection methods and confirm before drilling — every time.

Level on every shelf

A shelf that's off by even a degree looks wrong and stores things poorly. We use a level on every installation — not a tape measure and a hope.

Right anchors for every wall

San Antonio garages are often concrete block. Older homes have plaster. New builds have metal stud drywall. We bring the right bits and anchors for every surface before we arrive.

Load tested before we leave

We apply downward pressure to every shelf we install before we pack up. If it's going to hold weight, we verify it holds weight — not theory, actual testing.

Fully insured

We carry full liability insurance. For shelving that's going to hold heavy items or is going into a garage or kitchen, working with an insured installer is the responsible choice.

We work with your shelves

Already bought your shelves and hardware from IKEA, Home Depot, or a specialty store? We install what you have — we don't require you to use our materials.

How it works

1

Send us the details

Text a photo of the shelf and where you want it. Tell us what the wall is made of if you know — we'll confirm the approach and quote you immediately.

2

We arrive prepared

Right drill bits, right anchors, laser level. We arrive with everything needed for your specific wall type — no hardware store runs mid-job.

3

Stud location first

Before anything goes on the wall, we locate studs or assess the masonry. The anchor plan is confirmed before drilling begins.

4

Level installation

Laser level across the full shelf run. Anchors set properly. Shelf mounted and checked for level from multiple points before finishing.

5

Load test & walk-through

We apply pressure and test the installation before we leave. Walk-through with you to confirm everything looks right and feels solid.

How much does shelving installation cost in San Antonio?

Our minimum is $195 for the first hour, which includes labor, travel, and basic mounting hardware. After the first hour, it's $125/hr prorated in 15-minute increments. A single floating shelf is typically done well within the first hour. Larger installations — a full garage storage wall or multi-shelf closet system — will run 2–4 hours depending on scope.

Do you install IKEA shelves and shelving systems?

Yes — IKEA floating shelves like the LACK, BERGSHULT, and KALLAX wall units are some of the most common shelving installs we do in San Antonio. IKEA's instructions are designed for basic drywall and often skip the critical step of locating studs. We anchor into studs or use properly rated anchors so your IKEA shelves actually stay on the wall.

Can you install shelves on concrete or brick walls in San Antonio?

Yes. Concrete block and brick walls are very common in San Antonio garages and older homes. They require masonry drill bits and expansion anchors — not the plastic anchors that come in most shelf kits. We arrive with the right equipment for masonry and can actually achieve stronger anchoring into concrete than into drywall.

How much weight can a floating shelf hold?

It depends entirely on how it's anchored. A floating shelf into two studs with proper hardware can typically hold 50–100 lbs. A shelf anchored only into drywall with plastic anchors may hold 10–20 lbs before failing. We always anchor into studs or properly rated hardware and tell you the realistic load capacity before we leave.

Do you install garage storage systems in San Antonio?

Yes — garage storage is one of our most popular services in San Antonio. Most San Antonio garages have concrete block walls, which require masonry anchors for wall-mounted shelving. We install slatwall systems, wall-mounted metal shelf units, overhead storage tracks, and custom garage shelving configurations. Text us a photo of your garage and we'll tell you what's involved.

Do you serve all of San Antonio for shelving installation?

Yes — we install shelving and storage systems throughout San Antonio and surrounding areas including Alamo Heights, Stone Oak, The Dominion, Helotes, Boerne, New Braunfels, Schertz, Universal City, and more. Same-day often available. Call or text (210) 460-0343.
