Why heavy pieces need a specialist

Heavy Pieces Require the Right Hardware — Every Time

A large mirror or heavy metal wall piece isn't something you want to hang with a standard picture hook and a prayer. These pieces can weigh 50 to 150 lbs or more, and the consequences of using the wrong anchor on the wrong wall type aren't minor — a falling mirror is a safety hazard, a damage claim, and a very bad day.

At San Antonio Installers, we assess every heavy piece before it goes on the wall. We check the weight, examine the wall construction, locate studs or masonry, and select hardware rated well above the actual load. For pieces that span between studs, we use toggle bolts or wall anchors rated for the weight. For concrete or brick walls — common in older San Antonio neighborhoods — we use masonry anchors and the right drill bits.

We handle large decorative mirrors, metal wall art, sculptural wall pieces, taxidermy mounts, antler displays, heavy canvas on stretcher bars, and any oversized décor that weighs more than a standard framed print. If it's heavy and it goes on a wall, we can hang it safely in San Antonio.

If it's heavy, oversized, or awkward — we've hung it. Here's what we handle across San Antonio homes and commercial spaces.

Large & Oversized Mirrors

Bathroom mirrors, full-length mirrors, decorative mirrors, and leaner mirrors mounted flush to the wall. We locate studs or set anchors rated for the load and use French cleats or D-ring systems for stability.

Metal Wall Art

Large metal sculptures, welded wall pieces, and industrial-style art. Metal art is often heavy and has unusual mounting points — we assess each piece individually and fabricate a solution if needed.

Taxidermy & Mounts

Shoulder mounts, European mounts, antler displays, and full animal head mounts. These need structural anchoring into studs — we locate them precisely and mount at the right height for display.

Oversized Canvas & Art

Large-format canvas on heavy stretcher bars, triptychs, and statement pieces. We use two-point or cleat systems and make sure the weight is distributed properly across the wall.

Decorative Shelving with Load

Floating shelves designed to hold heavy objects — books, pottery, collectibles. We anchor into studs and test the load before we leave.

Why it matters

We assess before we anchor

Every heavy piece gets evaluated — weight, mounting points, wall type, stud location. We never guess on a heavy installation.

Hardware rated above the load

We use anchors and hardware rated at minimum twice the piece weight. For pieces over 50 lbs, we anchor into studs whenever possible and use structural toggles when they're not available.

Plaster & masonry specialists

Older San Antonio homes in Alamo Heights, King William, and Terrell Hills often have plaster or concrete block walls. These need different bits and anchors — we arrive prepared for every wall type.

French cleat systems

For very heavy pieces or pieces that need to be level and adjustable, we install French cleats — the most secure and reliable hanging system for heavy wall décor.

Fully insured

We carry full liability insurance. For expensive or irreplaceable pieces, working with an insured specialist isn't optional — it's the only responsible choice.

Two-person installations

Some large mirrors and heavy pieces require two people or more for safe handling. We coordinate accordingly so no one is holding a 100-lb mirror while the other person tries to find a stud.

How it works

1

Send us the details

Text a photo of the piece and approximate weight. If you know the wall type, share that too. We respond with a plan and quote fast.

2

We assess on arrival

We check the piece, the wall, and stud location before selecting hardware. No assumptions on heavy installations.

3

Right hardware, right anchors

We select and install the appropriate mounting system — studs, toggle bolts, masonry anchors, or French cleat — for your specific wall and piece.

4

Safe, secure installation

The piece goes up carefully, leveled, and tested for security before we step back. We tug-test every heavy installation before finishing.

5

Walk-through & confirmation

We show you how it's mounted, confirm it's secure, and answer any questions before we leave.

How heavy of a piece can you hang?

We regularly install pieces over 100 lbs in San Antonio homes and businesses. The limit depends more on the wall construction than the piece weight — concrete and masonry walls can support significantly more than drywall. We assess each situation individually and won't install anything we can't do safely.

How much does mirror installation cost in San Antonio?

Our minimum is $195 for the first hour, which includes labor, travel, and heavy-duty mounting hardware. After the first hour, it's $125/hr prorated in 15-minute increments. Most mirror and heavy décor installations in San Antonio are completed in one hour unless the piece is unusually complex or requires two installers.

What if there's no stud where I want to hang the mirror?

We have solutions for every wall situation. For drywall with no stud available, we use heavy-duty toggle bolts rated for the piece weight — installed correctly, these are extremely reliable. For plaster or masonry, we use appropriate masonry anchors. We never use plastic drywall anchors on heavy pieces.

Can you hang a mirror on a tile wall?

Yes, though tile requires specific drill bits and anchors to avoid cracking. We use diamond-tipped bits, proper tile anchors, and work slowly to preserve the tile. This is a job that's easy to ruin without the right tools — it's one of the clearest cases where hiring a specialist pays for itself.

Do you hang taxidermy and animal mounts?

Yes — shoulder mounts, European skull mounts, antler displays, exotic animals and full head mounts. These need to be anchored into studs at the right height for display. We locate the stud precisely, mount at your preferred height, and make sure the piece is secure and level before we leave.

Do you serve all of San Antonio for heavy mirror and décor installation?

Yes — we serve all of San Antonio and surrounding areas including Alamo Heights, Stone Oak, The Dominion, Helotes, Boerne, New Braunfels, Schertz, and Universal City. Call or text (210) 460-0343 — same-day often available.
